A man has been jailed for disseminating child pornography and possession of 30,000 illegal images.

The Adelaide District Court heard Andrew Lanxon Whitford, 60, was arrested after Queensland police received information from overseas that a person using the internet identity AdelaideGuy was sharing files on a website.

It heard an undercover police officer made contact with Whitford through the site and received child pornography material.

Whitford pleaded guilty to aggravated disseminating and possessing child pornography.

The court was told Adelaide police seized his computer equipment and found an estimated 30,000 images, plus videos.

Judge Wayne Chivell said he could not understand how anyone could derive pleasure from viewing such material.

“How any person can derive pleasure from viewing this material is beyond me,” he said.

“Some of the child pornography material is of the worst kind.

“The offending was at the serious end of the spectrum. The offending occurred over a period of months and you did not cease voluntarily.”

He sentenced Whitford to two years and nine months in jail with a non-parole term of 16 months.
