Paedophile ‘gave boys beer and marijuana’

Posted Fri Oct 12, 2007 2:27pm AEST

A Newcastle man has been sentenced to seven years jail for child-sex offences spanning 12 years.

Peter James Hoy, 45, was charged with offences against nine boys between 1990 and 2002. The victims were aged between 11 and 16.

Hoy pleaded guilty on the first day of his trial, after eight of his victims had been called to give evidence.

The Sydney District Court heard Hoy would give the boys beer and marijuana and watch pornographic videos with them when they visited him at his Stockton caravan. He would then sexually assault them.

In evidence tendered to the court, the victims told of how the abuse led them to turn to drugs and alcohol.

Judge Graham Armitage sentenced Hoy to seven-and-a-half years jail, with a non-parole period of five years and two months.
