DETECTIVES found 238 child porn images on a computer they seized from a Mackay man more than two years ago, the Magistrate’s Court was told yesterday.

Army Reservist Peter Rodney Jackson, 30, who works as a cleaner and console operator, was jailed for nine months, to be suspended after serving two months.

He pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography images on a computer in Mackay on January 27, 2004.

It was his second conviction for possessing child porn.

Jackson was originally arrested on January 17, 2003, when Juvenile Aid Bureau officers raided his home, seized his computer and found 139 child porn images.

It took 12 months for the computer to be examined.

When the officers went back to Jackson’s house in January, 2004, they confiscated a second computer and found another 238 images on it.

Jackson was fined $1500 for the first offence.

But in sentencing him for the second offence yesterday, visiting Magistrate Damien Dwyer said he formed a view that an actual term of imprisonment should be served by Jackson.

”This a very serious offence,” Mr Dwyer said.

”The community takes a very dim view of it (child pornography).”

The court was told that Jackson had not re-offended since his second arrest in January, 2004, and he was also seeking counselling.

The computer used to contain the pornographic images was forfeited.

The case was handled by the Mackay Child Protection Investigation Unit, formerly known as the Juvenile Aid Bureau.
