Ex-grounds keeper jailed over sex with student

Posted Fri Jul 1, 2011 1:30pm AEST

A man who had a sexual relationship with a student while he worked at an Adelaide school has been jailed for six years.

Former grounds keeper Andrew John Janoska, 46, pleaded guilty in the District Court to nine counts of unlawful sexual intercourse, between March 2001 and November 2003.

The court was told Janoska was sacked after the girl’s parents told the school and police of the relationship.

It heard Janoska met his teenage victim when she was 13 and she became obsessed with him.

Judge David Smith told Janoska he used his position at the school to seek out and woo the girl and said his behaviour was ‘classically predatory’.

Judge Smith told Janoska he effectively had wrecked three crucial years of the girl’s life and scarred the rest of it.

Janoska will be eligible to seek parole in September 2015.
