A former Queensland teacher and boarding master won an appeal on Friday against his sentence for sexually assaulting a school boy almost 30 years ago.

Stephen Frederick Koster pleaded guilty to 10 counts of indecently treating a child under 14.

The offences were committed at a Queensland boarding school in 1983 but he was not charged until late last year.

The District Court in Brisbane sentenced Koster, who was then 60, to 15 months’ imprisonment, suspended after five months.

Koster appealed and in a split decision last Friday, the Court of Appeal upheld it and ordered the remaining two months he had left to serve be suspended.

Koster had previously been jailed in 2003 for offences against a boarder at the same school in 1984.
