UN worker jailed over child sex crime

Posted March 30, 2012 15:09:27

A former United Nations worker specialising in dealing with traumatised children has been jailed for indecently assaulting a Hobart teenager.

Abubakarr Lamin, 32, from Victoria will spend six months in jail and a further seven years on the child sex offenders’ register.

The Supreme Court in Hobart heard Lamin was under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he separately approached a 36-year-old man and two 16-year-old boys in Hobart’s CBD last year.

He inappropriately touched all three and tried to get them to accompany him to his hotel room.

One boy was intimidated enough to comply and was indecently assaulted.

In a victim impact statement, the boy said he was crying and had multiple showers afterwards.

He had also burnt his clothes to try and get rid of the smell of Lamin.
