Denis Moulds – suspended for one year from practising as a nurse or midwife

27 January 2010

The Health Care Complaints Commission recently prosecuted three complaints against Mr Denis Moulds before the Nurses and Midwives Tribunal. The complaints alleged that Mr Moulds was unfit to practice as a nurse given the circumstances of a criminal conviction, was not of good character, and suffered from an impairment.

In 2006, Mr Moulds was convicted for aggravated sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault of a 13 year old boy. He served a term of imprisonment and was released from custody in July 2009.

In its decision of 21January 2010, the Tribunal found the complaints that Mr Moulds was unfit to practise nursing, and not of good character were not proved. However, the Tribunal did find that Mr Moulds suffered from an impairment (bipolar disorder and/or depressive illness and/or alcohol dependence and abuse). Mr Moulds was suspended for one year, with the condition that he satisfy the Nurses and Midwives Board by March 2010 that he was being appropriately monitored by a psychologist and/or psychiatrist. If this condition was not met, then the Tribunal would reconsider appropriate orders.

i nearly fell over backwards to read that some man that has prior charges for an offence against a child was and is nursing and i was more disturbed to see that he was only suspended for a year even though they have information to say that he has mental health issues and alcohol abuse problem, i don’t understand what is going on in society these days if i were to go to a hospital i would want to feel safe and comfortable and it is in my opinion that if anyone has charges of this nature that they should never be allowed to work in a field where they can come across children and people that are very vonerable !
