A paedophile Sydney doctor who was due to be released on parole before Christmas has had his jail sentence extended. John Phillip Rolleston indecently assaulted 12 boys, who were as young as 14, between 1975 and 1981. The 74-year-old assaulted the boys on the pretext of needing semen samples when they came to him to be treated for conditions such as influenza and an ankle injury. Rolleston was sentenced to at least 18 months in jail in June last year. He had been due to be released on December 23. But earlier this year he pleaded guilty to another four charges after more victims came forward during his trial in the state’s District Court. He has now been given a minimum jail sentence of 14 months for the new charges. That sentence has been backdated though, so Rolleston will be eligible for parole in March next year. The court previously heard Rolleston has been a model prisoner and wants to reconnect with his family when he gets out of jail. Rolleston worked as a GP at Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital and at his own surgery in St Ives between 1969 and the 1980s. He also worked in far western New South Wales at Broken Hill. His lawyer also argued that his jail sentence should not be extended because of a delay by prosecutors in laying the extra charges. He has been in protective custody in jail.
