Goth lured girls to cemetery for sex

Updated Fri Dec 4, 2009 4:54pm AEDT

A man who used the internet to solicit girls for sex in a Sydney cemetery has been jailed for at least six years.

Daniel William Peckham today pleaded guilty to the aggravated sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in an open tomb at Sydney’s Rookwood cemetery in April 2007.

The 24-year-old also admitted other charges relating to the use of a carriage service to procure underage girls for sexual activity and to transmit child pornography.

The New South Wales District Court was told that Peckham set up a website, Rookwood Gothic Society, to solicit minors for sexual activity.

The website stated “if you have hang-ups about getting naked, then you are not welcome and if you are not willing to let me have sex with you, then you are not welcome”.

Judge Peter Berman said Peckham had manipulated naive and immature young girls for his own sexual gratification.

Peckham, who was on a disability support pension, had problems “socialising in places other than cyber space”, the judge said, noting his social ineptitude and his functioning at the level of an adolescent.

Judge Berman jailed Peckham for a maximum of nine years, and with time already served he will be eligible for parole from June 2013.
