Updated Thu 24 Apr 2014, 7:15pm AEST

A former high school teacher who sent his female students explicit messages via Facebook has been

jailed for 15 months.

Simon Earnest Dutton, 48, was a teacher at a public school in Perth’s northern suburbs in 2012 when

he used a false profile on the social media site to contact the girls pretending to be a male student.

Perth District Court heard how he asked the students to send him sexual photographs of themselves.

Dutton, who is a father of two, was also convicted of approaching two female students from behind

and placing a recording device between their legs.

He was stood down from his teaching position in March last year when the Education Department

launched an internal investigation.

Dutton has since been dismissed by the department.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of indecently recording a child and one count of intent to expose

a child under 16 to indecent material.

Dutton will be eligible for parole after serving half his sentence.
