An arrest warrant has been issued for a Queensland man after he lost an appeal against his jail sentence for child pornography offences.

Damien Joshua Smith was sentenced to 18-months in jail, to be suspended after three months, when he pleaded guilty in the District Court in Ipswich earlier this year to using the Internet to access child pornography.

Some of the images were in the worst category.

He was granted bail pending the outcome of an appeal against the severity of his sentence.

But the Court of Appeal said the principle of general deterrence was important in Smith’s case and dismissed his appeal.

The court issued a warrant for Smith’s arrest, but it will not be executed for a week to give Smith time to hand himself in.
