WA man jailed for grooming boy for sex

A Perth man who pleaded guilty to charges of using a mobile phone and the internet to groom a teenager for sex has been jailed.

Keith Shepheard, 50, was arrested in July last year after sending pornographic pictures and sexually explicit text messages to a Canberra teenager.

He had also been planning to travel to Canberra to meet the boy.

Today in the ACT Supreme Court Shepheard was sentenced to two years and nine months in jail.

He will be released in January after serving nine months of the sentence. He will then be on good behaviour bond for three years.

A 48-year-old man who is alleged to have tried to lure a Canberra teenage boy to have sex with him, has been granted bail in the ACT Supreme Court.

Keith Shepheard from Western Australia was arrested in July along with Sydney man Brendan Russell Sinclair.

It is alleged the men sent pornographic photos and text messages to a Canberra teenager via mobile phones and the internet.

The men were allegedly planning to travel to Canberra to meet with the boy.

Justice Malcolm Gray today granted Shepheard bail and has allowed him to fly home to Perth on Monday night.

Bail conditions include not accessing the internet and not using a mobile phone.

Shepheard has been committed to stand trial next year.
