Man jailed for raping 9yo girl

A man who raped a nine-year-old girl in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley has been jailed for 12 years.
A District Court jury convicted Ioan Stoian, 58, of raping the girl in his hotel room in September 2008.
It is the second time Stoian has been found guilty after his conviction last year was set aside by the Court of Appeal.
Prosecutor Chris Minnery described Stoian’s offence as every parent’s worst nightmare because his victim went missing in a crowded place during a small window of opportunity.
He also says Stoian is at a high risk of reoffending and a danger to young girls.
Judge Leanne Clare jailed Stoian for 12 years with an automatic declaration that he is a serious violent offender. That means Stoian will serve at least 80 per cent of his sentence.
