Sydney sex predator jailed until 2020

A ‘predator’ who prowled inner city Sydney for drunk young men to indulge his sexual urges has been jailed until at least 2020.

A jury this year found 60-year-old Hoe Fatt Lee guilty of sex attacks on two 18-year-olds and a 22-year-old between 2009 and 2012.

Sentencing Lee on Friday to a total of 11 years, Sydney District Court Judge David Frearson recounted how he picked out drunk, ‘defenceless’ men at Central Station and lured them into his car with the promise of lifts.

‘The offender was a predator who systematically sought out grossly intoxicated young men to indulge his sexual urges in one way or another, and he did so without their consent,’ Judge Frearson said.

One victim went to step out of Lee’s car and realised his fly had been undone and he had been interfered with.

Another victim, a Swedish national in Australia on a working holiday, woke up to find Lee performing a sex act on him.

He was ‘crying, angry and embarrassed’ after the incident.

The third victim described how ‘everything went black’ before he found himself in the back of a car with his trousers down, his legs spread-eagled, as Lee assaulted him.

‘At the end of it all he said to the offender, I’m not fing paying you’ – he thought he was a taxi driver, which indicates the level of confusion,’ Judge Frearson said.

‘The offender was on the prowl, seeking out young men to isolate them and fellate them.’

Though Lee’s supporters described him as a family man dedicated to his wife, the judge said there was ‘no evidence of any real acceptance of responsibility’.

He handed Lee a non-parole period of seven years and six months.
