Prosecutors have appealed the sentence of eight months non-parole on the grounds it was plainly unjust and didn’t reflect the multiple charges that escalated in seriousness over many months. Stoupe was re-sentenced to at least two-and-a-half years in prison. He will be eligible for parole in May 2017.

A former childcare worker who sexually abused an eight-year-old girl has been sentenced to at least eight months in prison.

Nikki Stoupe, 29, pleaded guilty last month to three counts of aggravated indecent assault and one count of secretly filming the girl on the toilet over a six-month period in 2012.

Noting that Stoupe was unlikely to reoffend and had entered a psychological rehabilitation program, District Court Judge Chris Craigie sentenced him to maximum sentence of 16 months and a non-parole period of eight months.

He will be eligible for release in July 2015.
