Aussie dad jailed for grooming girl on Net

AN Australian father of three has been sentenced to 15 months’ jail in the Canadian province of Newfoundland for “luring” a 14-year-old girl over the internet and attempted sexual assault.
Anthony John Porter, 37, from Woody Point in Queensland, agreed to serve the sentence after striking a plea deal with Newfoundland prosecutors.
Judge Wayne Gorman formally sentenced Porter to the 15 month jail term during a hearing in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, today.
Porter has admitted in court he made a “massive mistake” by communicating with the 14-year-old girl on internet chat rooms, Skype and instant messaging for more than a year before taking vacation from his job in Queensland as a technician and flying to Corner Brook.
Porter arrived in the town on April 1, bought the girl a ring, necklace and alcohol, but was arrested by authorities after a member of the public reported a suspicious person on Corner Brook’s Main Street area.
Last week Porter entered guilty pleas to charges of internet luring and attempted sexual assault after prosecutors agreed to withdraw two other sex offence charges.
The court heard Porter has three children in Queensland and is separated from his wife.
