Sex fiend too close

A CONVICTED sex offender is living metres from a primary school in suburban Melbourne – with the consent of the State Government.

Robin James Sadedin, 39, was last month found guilty of possessing more than 5000 pornographic images of children.

Almost all were of naked pre-pubescent schoolgirls.

Parents of children at Sherbourne Primary are furious authorities and the school’s hierarchy failed to tell them Sadedin lived so close.

Sadedin, a former child protection worker for the Department of Human Services, left the government post in disgrace when the child porn was found on his home computer and digital camera.

It contained explicit images of school-aged girls exposing their genitalia.

Briar Hill mother Samantha Dukes said she was “disgusted and appalled” Sadedin was allowed so close to the school.

“What is to say he won’t start taking pictures of our children?” she said. “How can someone like that live so close to a school?”

Sadedin, who was living near a kindergarten when he was arrested, then pleaded guilty to knowingly possessing child pornography and producing child pornography.

He was sentenced to six months’ jail, suspended for a year, and placed on a two-year community-based order.

Sadedin yesterday defended his right to live near a school.

“The community has absolutely nothing to fear from me living here,” he said.

Sadedin described his child porn actions as a “bad choice” and said he was undergoing psychiatric treatment.

A Department of Justice spokeswoman confirmed the Government knew where Sadedin was living. She said he was required to regularly report to police.

Child protection officer avoids jail over porn

A South Gippsland child protection officer has been given a suspended jail sentence for possessing and making child pornography.

39 year-old Robin James Sadedin pleaded guilty to the two charges and was sentenced to six months in prison, wholly suspended.

He had been working as a child protection case manager at the Department of Human Services at Leongatha for 3 years when police raided his house and found more than 5000 pornographic images of young children.

The Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court heard Sadedin lived near a school at Mirboo North, but has since moved to Melbourne with his parents.

The prosecution argued Sadedin held a position of trust in the community and should go to jail.

Magistrate Lou Hill said Sadedin had shown a willingness for rehabilitation.

He will be listed on the sex offenders register for 15 years.
